The Champion Brief

Give your boss exactly what they need to go to bat for you.

Fill this out 24 hours before your 1:1. Send it ahead. Your boss cannot champion what they cannot explain. This makes their job easier and yours impossible to ignore.

01

What I delivered and what it enabled

List 2–3 things you completed this quarter. For each one, connect it to a business outcome your boss can repeat upward.

02

What I'm working on and why it matters to the org

Describe your current focus. Connect it to an org priority or something your boss's boss cares about. No jargon.

03

The one ask: what I need you ready to answer

One thing. The single ask your boss needs to be ready to support, defend, or advocate for on your behalf. Make it specific.

Send this 24 hours before your 1:1. Give your boss time to think before the room. The goal isn't to manage impressions: it's to reduce their cognitive load so they can move things in your direction.
