The Credit Visibility
Checklist

Credit doesn't travel with the work. It travels with relationships — and with how clearly your name is attached to what you built. Run these four moves before your next major project delivery.

Move 01
The Pre-Brief

Brief the decision-maker directly before the presentation happens — not after, not through a chain, but directly. One conversation. You are the source they already heard from, not the person they heard about.

"Here's what you need to know before you hear about this from anyone else."
When24–48 hours before the presentation, budget review, or leadership update
WhoYour skip-level or the decision-maker who will receive the work
Move 02
The Paper Trail That Travels

Your name is structurally inseparable from every deliverable. When someone lifts it into a deck, your name goes with it — or they have to actively remove it. That's a different calculation than hoping they remember to mention you.

Not "Q2 Infrastructure Migration Plan" — "[Your Name]'s Q2 Infrastructure Migration Plan."
Apply toDocument titles, file names, email subjects, executive summary headers, slide footers
Move 03
The Visibility Ritual

One sentence to your skip-level after every significant delivery. Not a status report. Not a request. A signal. Builds a running picture in their head of who's handling what — without you ever asking for credit directly.

"Team delivered the firewall migration early. Zero issues — great work from everyone."
CadenceAfter every significant delivery, win, or clean closure
FormatEmail or Slack. Never more than 3 sentences.
Move 04
The Sponsorship Calibration

Name the person who says your name in rooms you're not in. A mentor gives you advice. A sponsor says your name when there's something on the table — a promotion, a project, a budget decision.

Who is in the room when your name comes up positively at the VP level or above? If you can't name them — you don't have one yet.
AssignmentIdentify one leader two levels above you. In the next 30 days, find one genuine way to be useful to them.
The one thing to do today

Pick the move with the least friction right now and start there. Not all four. One.

The Visibility Ritual takes 30 seconds. If you closed something this week and didn't send that sentence — send it tonight. That's how this starts.
